Build a monochrome underpainting, glaze transparent colour over the top, and watch your painting transform.
Join us for a three-hour abstract painting workshop exploring one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — elements of painting: value.
Workshop 2 of 6 — Value & Contrast (Join in on one, a few or all workshops, they are designed to enhance your learning in each)
Date: Saturday 15 August 2026
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Venue: Woorree Hall, Geraldton WA
Cost: $88 per person (inc. GST)
Includes: All materials, light morning tea, tea and coffee.
Places are limited and bookings are essential. Prepayment required to secure your spot.
—
During the workshop you will learn:
• What value means and why it matters more than colour
• How to build a tonal underpainting from dark to light
• The squint test — a simple technique for reading any painting
• Glazing: applying transparent colour over a dried underpainting
• How warm and cool colours behave in lights and shadows
• How to create a focal point using contrast alone
Suitable for all skill levels. Whether you're joining us for the first time or continuing from Workshop 1, you'll be guided through the process in a relaxed and encouraging environment. All materials are supplied and you'll take home your finished painting.
This is Workshop 2 in a series of six exploring the core elements of abstract painting — colour, value, texture, composition, colour relationships, and mixed media. Each workshop is completely standalone, so come to one or collect them all. Dates for Workshops 3–6 coming soon.
